Come experience beautiful Arcadia Valley and its many treasures.  Missouri's best kept secrets are just a day trip away from St. Louis.  Follow the Braille trail through Elephant Rocks State Park. Meander through giant pink granite boulders or picnic among the trees.  Fort Davidson Historic site has an interesting visitors center with a diorama that lights up as the soldiers march toward battle.  In addition,  a brief film with the history of the area can be viewed.  The Taum Sauk section of the Ozark Trail features the Devil's Tollgate, Mina Sauk Falls and the highest point in Missouri.  The terrain is rugged through the St. Francois Mountains, but will provide solitude and beautiful vistas.  There are a host of recreational opportunities and events such as white water races on the St. Francis River, the Mountain Music Festivals and Rodeos.  Other activities include camping, fishing, swimming, kayaking, hiking or biking, horseback riding & trail rides, floating the Black River in canoes, rafts or tubes or just relaxing, shopping and sightseeing.  Let your imagination be your guide.

Special Announcement!  The redeveloped Johnson's Shut-Ins State Park is open to the public.  The main valley of the park includes an orientation center, retail stores, picnic areas and shelters, and an enclosed picnic shelter. A new boardwalk provides access to the shut-ins and there are numerous areas to access the East Fork of the Black River for swimming and splashing. In 2010 a new portion of the park opened in the Goggins Mountain area of the park.  The new campground includes basic, electric, full-hookup, equestrian and walk-in campsites plus camper cabins. The new campground includes a store, showerhouses and laundry facilities. Hiking and equestrian trails will be offered in the park, including a portion of the Ozark Trail and a trail and overlook in the scour channel in the valley of the park.  (More information here)
